Prospective Rowers
Want to Row?
We encourage all those looking to start or continue their athletic careers to consider joining UD Crew to either row or cox. Incoming students in the fall will find that there are several recruitment meetings held during the first two weeks of the academic year. In addition, our Varsity Men actively talk to students regarding the crew experience during undergraduate move-in day. Current students who are looking to join midseason, please contact a member of our coaching staff.
What You Can Expect:
Contrary to popular myth, our freshman squad does not rise at 5 AM to practice. The first two weeks are based around the Concept 2 Indoor Rower (known as an “erg”) in which novice rowers are introduced to the technique and motion of the stroke. Soon thereafter, our new rowers are on the water and have their first major race held in Knoxville, Tennessee in October. Many of our nation’s great rowers began their rowing careers as freshmen in college with no prior experience.
High School Oarsmen:
We strongly encourage high school rowers and coxswains to continue their rowing careers at the University of Dayton. To schedule a visit or request information please contact Mitch Vossler.
